In The Mirror: Reflections on Identity & Leadership

This workshop will examine mainstream/non-culturally specific anti-violence workspaces, traditions, and the potential for transformation. The discussion will center the power dynamics, systemic oppression, and the cycles of violence replicated within anti-violence organizations. Through open dialogue with participants, the facilitators will explore perspectives on some of the root causes of systemic violence, moving beyond the person who caused harm. Facilitators will reflect on their unique and shared experience, including leading an agency that is both anchored in the anti-oppression movement, and responsible for serving seven rural counties and communities in southeast Iowa.
